Default 81 Z28 value?

Yeah, this is my first post....What would you experts think this 81 Z28 is worth. The guy who owns it says he will take 3K for it as it is an all original drivetrain 4speed 350. There is no rust on the body anywhere just a few dings. It definately needs paint..the interior needs work as it is missing key peices like carpet and the console. Floor is solid though. T-Tops do not leak but will need new rubber seals anyhow as they are now brittle.

Do you know for sure that it has original drive train if I where you I would get the numbers off the the motor and trans and check them out. Heres a web site to where you can run the numbers. MorTec.com
I would also run the vin number and to see the blue book value is so you dont get screwed.

I always seem to get screwed over car deals . I really do not care if it has the original drive train anyhow. I Just want to drive it for fun and have it eventually look nice. It's a Canadian built and sold car so it could very well have the original 350 with 4 speed for '81. I don't think that combo was avaialble in the states for '81 due to emissions and mileage requirements.

I haven't actually heard it run...but they guy did drive it from another town a few weeks back. The battery is now dead so he can't start it..that's good for me 'cause I'm gonna show up at his place with a spare battery so I can hear the engien run when it is cold.

def. make sure it runs....if it doesnt dont bother...cause god knows wut it could be...the things im more concerned about is. why is it missing the carpet??? and wierd **** like that...its prolly not an original 4 speed of the consol is gone...thats what my suspion is anyway....i dunno sounds alil meh...but if its got a solid body and everything is alined right go for it...oh bring a magnet so u can check for bondo and nock around fenders and stuff with your hand and listen for noise and stuff...to make sure there is none of that! good luck

totally forgot about the magnet trick...thanks for jarring my memory...

just found out something totally cool about the car....i thought it looked familiar....an old school friend of mine usd to own it...he bought it used back in the late 80's...it definately had a 4 speed and 350 in it when he bought it and it was only 7 or 8 years old when he had it....of course it was in a lot better shape then though

Make sure to check the rear frame rails real good, I don't know how many solid camaros with rusting out frame rails. What that car is worth depends on what your plans for it are and how much you'll have to spend on it.

opps...forgot to let everyone know I bought it...hehe...project car now!! I checked the tranny...it's a muncie m20...tranny case is from a 67. The original T-10 has long since been lost. The engine is original though..serial numbers match the VIN. 350 4 speed from 81...i bit rare..i got no onboard computer either....

It has never really been winter driven..maybee only the first couple of years of its life. Then came the huge rear tires (295 60r15's)...not good in snow so it was parked for half the year most of its life. Im the 4th owner. Only the first and second owners actually drove the car. The third owner sold it to me cause he bought a new msutang. He never ever got the Camaro on the road.

some pics of it as it stands below....

I had a 80 with a M20 4-speed it was fun only problem is there is no short shifter but after some pratice down the track I did not mind. Good luck with the car I have a 81 now had it for 10 years really nice shape. I put a ZZ4 crate motor in and I think it was the best $3600 I spent.
