Default '81 Z Speedometer troubles

Both speedo cables are properly attached, tranny to cruise control and cruise control to dash. The cruise control wiring is disconnected but that should not matter. Gauge needle doesn't move. Any thoughts ?

Disconnect the output from the cruise control to the speedo, jack the car up run it and see if the gearbox's output is spinning. it it works chuck the cable going to the speedo in a drill and see if it works.

Drill test worked great, speedo worked. Turns out that the lower cable was broken on the running test (it didn't move) Replaced the lower cable. Speedo works great. Thank you for your great ideas.

And that barely keeps the lights and shop A/C running.

Sorry to here that. I never like to hear about a small business struggling. Over here in Michigan we have a mechanic locally that is taking IOUs. He's trying to do his part to keep the community alive. He told me he gets stiffed about once a month.
