Default 81 Z No acceleration

Hello,
This is my first time on this site, I am having a problem with my 81 Z28. About 2 months ago I had to pull my engine to fix a piece of the block that broke off right where the starter bolts on, after i got the engine back and into the car i started it up and it started up fine but was running rough due to a vacumm line that was not connected, after going through and making sure everything was connected correctly I toke it out for a test drive, when I put it in gear it will drive but it is very rough and when I push on the gas there is no real acceleration, we replaced the plugs, wire, oil, fuel filter and pump, and thermostat, a friend of mine drove it and said it sounded and felt like it was not firing right or some cylinders were not firing at all, and suggested i replace the distributer assembly, as of now i have not done this. Does that right or should i try something else first, any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the timing yet? Also check the fuel filter, and be sure the vacuum advance is hooked up to the proper port.
Welcome to the forum!

might need a carb kit, do you have to prime it before you start it?

For starting with a carb, that's perfectly normal.
In addition to checking the timing, check to make sure the choke is opening up all the way, after it warms up. What kinda carb?

Please accept my condolences!
If the choke isn't opening, not only will it be "choking" the intake of air, but it will also be locking out the secondaries from opening.
Both of those are going to hurt your lead-foot performance.

Make sure it's warmed up when you check the choke.
