79 vs. 79

Which one is a better buy??
I am looking to buy a 79. There are 2 I am interested in. The first has a 250 straight 6 automatic. T-top. The brake system has been replaced. The seller says it needs a new muffler. The carpet is shot and the dash is cracked. He is including a set of v8 headers, a set of z28 gauges and a mid 90's 350. It's a 4 bolt main but he says there was water in one of the cylinders but it turns over. $1850
The second is a rally sport with z28 drivetrain, munice m-22 crusher transmission, 350 four barrel with a/c, 10 bolt posi. Come with the original munice 4 speed. $2200
I just wanna know what car is the better deal? Also are these cars good for daily drives?

As far as a daily driver, they are both going to kill you with gas. For which car you want, it's a matter of what you are looking for. If there's water in the cylinder, it's going to need a lot of work to clean it out. The first one will end up being more than 2200 once it's finished. If I was choosing, i'd pick the second just because it sounds like it won't need as much work. But it depends what you want. Do you absolutely want t tops?

The black one, even though it has a 6 banger, has more going for it; better looking paint, has t-tops, better wheels, and by judging the overall condition of the red one, probably a better interior.
The red one doesn't look like it's been well cared for, especially under the hood. And see the rust all around the rear window? That's a rust prone spot for these cars, and it's very likely there's plenty more there that you're not seeing, which equates to cancer holes, water leaks, and an extensive repair.

The M22 want even being built in 79 let alone available in a Camaro. I like the 6 too. It would take me all of 4 hours to have a running V8 in there. 6 hours if I break out the Buds. 3 if i can in the buds, lol.
I think the guy selling the Rs is feading you crap. The "Z28" drive train means little. The sway bars, springs and steering box all are what really make a Z. Lets look at the rest.
Rear end 10 bolt. Standard equipment after 1970. My 78 Z had an open diff. Not very sporty.
The engine. Anemic 350 was at best 250 hp. I think it was lower like 225. But low 200's for certain.
The transmission. Its probably a Borgwarner ST-10. Some say as strong as a rock crusher. The RPO may say M21 but that is the RPO #. I did mean 21 BTW. I have heard of cars with a Saginaw and the RPO be M21. Look at it and see if its got the reverse shift lever in the tail housing and 9 side cover bolts. That with an aluminum case and its a ST-10.
So finally watch this and decide.

I'd pass on the red one, unless I was buying it to part out, and it REALLY does have an M22. I'd bbe shocked if it did, as they will get $1500-$2,000 just for a good M22. If you can determine that it really does have the M22 by checking the numbers on the trans, and the engine runs well, I'd buy it and part it out.
But if you can only buy one, then I'd get the black one. It's way nicer and the engine/trans is cheaper to do than the body.
