Bolts right in. I have a '78 T/A axle under my '71. That's a great price!

That bad boy is just begging for a 4 wheel disc brake conversion. Yes that is a great deal.

Is there any specific things I should check before purchasing?

Yeah, if they wont let you pull the cover, then don't buy it. With the cover off you can check for signs of wear, if you know what to look for. You can also look for any slop in the ring/pinion, and any ugly pieces in the bottom of the housing.

The thing is I don't know what I'm looking at if I do pull the cover I'm new to this so is it obvious signs of wear or do I really need to get close to it to check it?
Thanks

Well I kinda figured that might be an issue. If you're not sure what you're looking for, then it's tough to explain what to do. If I didn't know what to look for I'd look for major issues like chips in any gear teeth. I'd also look for signs anyone had been in there, like missing bolts. Be sure to check and see if it has the "S" spring, or coil springs inside the carrier that will ensure it really is a posi. Also take a flashlight and count the ring and pinion, then divide to make sure it's really 3.73 gears. A piece of chalk will help you count them by putting a mark on the tooth you start with. Other than that you'd need more experience to see anything more.
