Default 78 camaro parts

i am thinking about trading my boat for a 78 camaro with a vinyl top, and i was wondering how hard it is to convert it to a full hard top, i found a roof panel in a catalog from here might take a minute to load, but it says it fits from 67-69all and 70-74all?

it seems like i cant really find any sheet metal in the catalog for a 78. is there another catalog online somewhere else

If it's just a vinyl top,you should be able to remove the vinyl and any molding that covers the edges then sand and prep the metal roof.

ok cool, i wasnt sure if i could do that and it would be ok or not, it looked pretty rusty under some spots. and i never dealt with rust along the edges of stuff before.

I would feel all around it though, just to make sure there are no spots under the vinyl where the metal has rusted through. If not then i would say it should be fine. Also dont forget to check the rear frame rails, when i bought my 81 i never thought to check them and now my project is alot bigger than i had planned haha.

There's a number of rust prep treatments that work well, if it's not rusted through. I had a vinly top on my '71 until around 1983 when I took it off. I've never regretted removing it.

If your not going for the original look i would say deff. get rid of the vinyl IMHO. Was never fond of the vinyl tops personally.

ok well i got the 78 today, and it needs some work, but the roof is rusted through in some spots under the vynle, its not a bad trade for a 80's fish and ski boat. ill take pics when i can of under the viynle.

is there a way i can replace the whole top because the one in the catalog didnt have one for this year?

here is a link to my myspace with pics on it

looks like a good start, if you cant find a full roof it might be easier to just patch it anyway?

They sell roof skins for a second gen. I don't know where you looked, I belive NPD has them. Post up pics of what you need. I'm gonna cut up my 78. It has a sun roof but it would make good patches. I'll give the to you for shipping cost.
