hey guys, my good o'l RS is at it again lol, i have a 1978 camaro RS with the 350 4spd. and it was running fine for a few months, however now that it is getting colder out, when i start it up, the miss is so bad it sounds like it is only running on 3 cylinders. i just got laid off from my job and dont have money to be finding what could it be parts. it was given a tune up maybe 5k miles ago, new air filter, just rebuilt the carb. i was wondering if it could be the coil? i just got an MSD 6AL with blaster coil but have not installed it yet, could this fix the problem? thank you

 

i would look at fuel first. check your choke and see if its closing correctly when it cools. could be its not closing and when it got cold the motor needed more fuel and isnt gettin it, and on the other side it could be closing to far because its colder and flooding it.

 

What type of carb is it? With the recent drop in temperature it could send it for a little bit of a loop with the choke like crabby said.

 

I second the check your choke.
If your choke isn't choking, your carb won't be in check!

 

Yeah, and Chevies are notoriously cold blooded! How does it do once it's warmed up a few minutes?

 

the carb is a Rochester 4bbl, and when i bought the car it didnt have a choke at all, but that was in the dead of summer, so it has a brand new choke on it and was fairly adjusted, and after about 3-4 minutes of warming up in a plume of gas smelling smoke it will work, (the engine is losing alot of its gaskets but this is my drivable project for the time being) but it really sounds like a spark problem, then again the choke was tuned for the summer and i may need to fiddle with it again. also the dashpot is broken, could this be the problem? i dont really know what it does i just know its broken lol thanks for all the help guys
