70 RS/Z28 $$$
Hey there,
I'm trying to get an idea of what a 70 RS/Z28 is going for now a days. I know of one in my area. I have drove it, checked the #'s on the engine ect. I have been following and keeping track of it for the last 15 years. They were saying they wanted/consider $9000 for it 15 years ago. It needs work. ~69000 miles. interior is good. The rear rails had some rust. The quarters had some rust.
All in all, I just want to get a feel for what it cost nowa days to just find a car like this that has the engine, tranny and rear axle ect. It's not a show car at the moment but it's not a heaping rust bucket. It runs great very driveable. I would say its a fair/good car on the "Poor, Fair, Good, Perfect" scale. It's a car that you could buy and drive no problem. The only part that isn't stock is the headers.
I found one on the net that has been restored and the price on it was $69K
its hard to say what it will cost to fix up a car. it could be 5 grand could be 100000000000 grand, its all on what you want to spend and what needs to be fixed. sorry i cannot give u a solid answer but its extremly difficult to say.
Yea, I understand. It is hard to figure sight unseen. Didn't know if anyone here who is up on current pricing. I have a 69 RS convertible, nonmatching #s, and someone offered $15K for not even seeing it. I know offering and going thru with the deal are two way different realities. It just made me take note of my car more.
I know the 70is worth $5K or $10K. I would think so anyways to just find a 70 RS/Z28 and have the major driveline #s match. I would think someone would have an idea just to antie up and get in the game what it could cost. I really think I could offer $20K for it the way it sits and that may not be enough. These are pretty rare cars to find are they not??
To me. Running across a 70 RS/Z28, originally dark gray w/blk striping, blk comfort weave deluxeinterior with the woodgrain inlay, 350 LT-1 engine, munie 4-speed, 3.73 rear, the factory wheels, ect... Is like finding a 69 Yenko...... well maybe not just like finding a 69 Yenko.... but pretty close.
I was dumb as a kid, 16-22, I had and drove daily a 70 RS with the 307 and sold it back in the early 90's for like $200. I look back now and think it was way too cheap. The rust was bad but it ran and the driveline matched. The rear spring were thru front and back.
Do you think $20K for a project car like this is too much and can find one better out west??
In your original post you said "had" some rust on frame rails and quarters. Does that mean the repairs have been done? If it has been done thats OK, but,,,inspect the work carefully. First thought that comes to me is $20k is too much for that car. A big block car would get more but from what you have said about the condition I would guess around $12k is a fair price.
