hey everyone, building two 69 camaros right now...For my wifes car we are lowering it Via Hotchis suspension, and a spindle..tubular arms etc....not coilovers or tubs. Wondering What size rims cna i wedge in front and bakc with MINIMAL folding and gridning....Will 8" fit upfront and 9" outback? Or have to do 7's and 8's....
Were gonna run some Intro 18's, so what size width works good for these cars, and what backspacing? 4"

it kind of varies from car to car. 9s out back might be too tight. up front you are going to need 4.5" backspacing and out back if the would fit, I would think you need 4 7/8 or 5. really don't think you can do without the mini-tub in back though

You would want 4" or under with wide rims. with 2.50 back space you would be able to fit the 9's just fine as long as the tire height is a 50 or 60. what size rims 15,16 or 17's And how wide of a tire do you want?

I have 245/60 R15'S with 4.3/4 backspace and they rub the inside of my wheel wells. in order for them to clear I would need at least 4.25 " I'm not sayin he needs 2.5 but with a 295/50 -15 he could use a 15/10 rim and clear the inside. with 5" of space he would rub with a 245.
oh this is for the back tires only not the front

i actually have a 69 camaro, and im running 8 inch wide 17s all the way around with 4.5 inch back spacing.... i have a slight wheel rub in the front when cornering hard, but my cars also lowered 2 inches.... i dont know about 9s in the back, but ive havent had a single problem in the back with the 8s

I missed the whole 18" rims part. The 4" should be fine. And after some checking even with 15's the 2.5 would look stupid. The best way to tell is to do the measurements.

I just dont see the point in tubin out the car for a 9" rim when I had 11 x3 3/4 on my 69 with 275/60/15's. i doubt that any 18 inch combo will be as tall as those. So it is a Question of clearing the inner wheel well and shocks. I just thought that the 5" wheels were for new cars and front wheel drives. Due to the fact that 90% uf the rear wheel drive cars have a 4 to 4 1/4 backspace and the wider wheels have a 3 to 3 7/8 set. I just think it would be cheaper to buy rims that fit instead of fabricate around them.

so you're trying to say that the wider the wheel you use, the less back-spacing you need? no way!
not to start a pissing contest, but you are way off here. back-spacing is the measurement used to tell you how far back (over the drum or rotor) your rim is going to sit. if you had an 8" rim with 4 1/2" back-spacing and you stepped up to a 9" rim and wanted the tire to sit the same, to the outside of the car, you would need 5 1/2" of backspacing to get the same results. if you went the other way (4 1/2 to 3 1/2), now your tire would be sticking 1" more out of your wheelwell and you would definitely be rubbing. back-spacing is what is most important when fitting bigger wheels in these cars. the only thing is if your tire gets too wide it will hit the shocks, and if it gets too tall it will hit the inner wheelhousing
as far as an 11" rim with 3 3/4" of backspacing goes, that means you would have your rims sticking 7 1/4" in front of you hub? maybe if you wanted to have your tires sticking illegally out of you wheelwell and had the back of the car jacked up to the moon
