Default 69 SS question

hi guys, and gals! i have a 69 camaro that i believed to be a SS. however, i have seen people say that all SS cars have disc brakes up front. i have drums and that they also have 12 bolt rears. mine came with a 10 bolt. the cowl tag says it is an X11, does this only pertain to the stripe kit?
one more question. for those that use the BF Goodrich tires on the rally wheels, what size are people generally using. i think i may go with the 225/70/15. what do you think?
thanks for all your help- joe

hello there. it doesn't seem that your car is a factory ss. i'm pretty sure they had disc brakes up front and a 12 bolt rear. as far as the x11 code goes i don't know all the different codes and their meanings. i could be wrong but i think SS's came with a 140 mph speedometer (maybe that was the Z28's). on my rally wheels i have a set of 235's. hope this helped!

perhaps a GM dealership could run the vin and get trim codes for you? or find a book from back then that will give you a much better idea?

I had been told that the "X" code was used on the SS models built on the Northwood plant. But I guess the information was not correct. The SS is supposed to have a 3/8" fuel line runing along the passenger side of the car. Also multi leaf bars in the rear suspension in lieu of a sigle bar. I orderd a book that should explain the coding. It is supposed to be delivered late this week or early next week. I will post what I find out.

I found some information at the following website:

http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-camaro-faq-SS.asp

Apparently the X-11 code was used for the SS and also the base models.

The info reads: "The X11 code is the only exception to identifying a true '69 SS Camaro because the code also means a plain Camaro."
