Default 454 Big Block

Will a 454 Big Block fit in a 78 Camaro? if a 454 big block will not fit what is a good engine size that will give me tons of power?

Yes it will fit just fine.Use small block motor mounts, there are a few people on here that swapped to a big block in their camaro's.

Yeah you can use the same ones, personally i would buy a new set though since the motor will be out anyway, but still buy the same ones you would for the 350.

I'd buy the polyurethane small block motor mounts. Mine tears rubber mounts up in short time, so I went with a chain to help hold the engine down. Couldn't find poly mounts when I had the engine up to change them.

Hey Val, I am possibly getting a 427 in a trade. What's the safest that you can bore over on those? One of the cylinders isn't in great shape and someone was talking about sleeving it.

Mine is .040" over and the shop said it's good to .090" or more. It depends on the casting once you go over .090". They check the freeze plugs to see if they are perfectly centered in the bosses, and if so there's no casting shift and they can go a litle farther. I decided to play it safe and leave some future room.
My machinist says he's taken some .125"!!! With no problem. That's 452 cubic inches with a 3.76" stroke of a 427! Like a 454, only one that grabs rpm's!

That would be mean,a buddy of mine used to race sand drags with a tube frame fiberglass CJ5 Jeep running a BBC.
He had a 454 in it that was .100 over.
Val you ever make it out to the Ash Bash?
Remember the Burgerville Corvette?
The guy that ran it was talking trash at the Ash bash how the Vette would kill John's Jeep which he had there on a trailer (bout 15 years back) so John put slicks on the Jeep and met him at PIR where he soundly trounced the Vette with his sand toy.
That Jeep was only 1500lbs,the Vette might have had more power I don't really know but it didn't stand a chance lol.

No, never made it to Ash Bash. I was going to go to the HAMB drags at Toutle a few weeks ago, but had a antique gun show that conflicted with my schedule. Friend said the drags at the Toutle raceway were a ton of fun! Lots of old coupes, roadsters, gassers, etc. Good stuff! I'll try to make it next year if the Austin gasser is done!

Reminds me of the CJ-5 I saw at pinks last year. It has an LQ9 6 liter out of a new chevy truck. Execpt for a cam swap it was stock. That thing stood straight up in the air, the driver was freakin. It too was a sand drag jeep and he never had air like that.
