350 turbo transmition shifting at high RPMs
71 camaro
i checked the tranny fluid and it was a little low so i threw some more in there, but it didnt really help. Transmition is shifting very late and at high RPMs. On the freeway it isnt so much of a worry, but on the streets I am pretty sure its in second at high RMS while I am rolling around at 35. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this.

Couple of things could cause this. A plugged valve body in the tranny that isn't letting fluid pass to build up enough pressure to shift. Or, it could be your kickdown linkage is out of adjustment and putting too much pressure on the tranny, causing late shifts.
If you disconnect the linkage from the transmission kickdown, where it connects to the carb you can see if it allows it to shift sooner. Lengthening the adjustment will allow the transmission to shift sooner. If that doesn't do it, then try changing your filter and fluid to see if it will clear up. If this doesn't work, you may need a transmission service or even rebuild.

SirRanRap, although the kickdown cable does have some influence on how the transmission shifts, the vacuum modulator (on the side of trans) is what controls the upshift points. Check the vacuum line from the engine to the modulator to make sure it hasn't come off, broken, etc. If it checks out, and it's still shifting way high, you can change the governor and/or put on an adjustable modulator. It's also possible that a previous owner already put on an adjustable modulator, and has the shift points jacked up. If it's an adjustable modulator, you will see a small adjustment screw inside the nipple when you remove the vacuum hose. Turning the screw in raises the shift point, turning it out lowers it.
