Default 350 build water outlet question

so i picked up a new water outlet today from autozone, it has the 2 holes on top which are for a bypass? i have the one fitting from my 305 that fits into one of the holes, what exactly is the other for? i have no block off cap for it. do i need this outlet or should i just pick up one of chrome ones with no bypass outlets

What you have screwed in there is a thermal vacuum switch. The other hole is sometimes used for the temperature switch (for the computer, not the gauge). Yours might be in the intake manifold, I can't see. If not being used, get a plumbing plug from the hardware store. Don't forget to use teflon tape on both fittings.

Get a brass plug, they look better over time. And use Teflon tape.

after looking at the old 305 i see the Ported Vacuum Switch off the water outlet goes to the egr and other line im not sure where it goes, but i don't plan on running an egr on the 350, should i just get the closed off water outlet like below

I guess my question is why did you have to replace it? Never seen one go bad.

I've seen the ears break, and the mating flanges get corroded and wont seal. The one on my 327 continually seeped and it was so corroded I had to replace it, so I went with that adjustable O ring one as shown above.
