Default 350 to 383

i was just reading up about turning your 350 into a 383 by changing the crankshaft to a longer stroke. will this hurt the vehicle if you want to use it as a daily driver?

I'm actually curious on this as well. I have a crate GM Goodwrench 350 in my Camaro and I am thinking about having it bored out to a 383 and then changing the heads on it.

Stroking a 350 will not hurt at all driving it daily. A little milling is done to the block also to allow the bigger crank to turn. I put a 383 in my 70 Chevelle along with 3.55:1 rear end gear and whoooa talk about a good car to show off in. The big difference is torque, tons of it. You will lose some upper RPM because of the longer stroke but well worth it.

ive been lookin at engine parts for awhile, i think im getting a 383 engine set from Eagle, then a 274h Comp Cams set, and Scorpion Performance roller rockers... i was just wondering how much horsepower could you get out of a 383, my target is 400hp, but i think thats a little high. what do you guys think?

No problem. That will be very attainable if it gets set up right.

400 at the crank will be a good number to get with a modest 383. I would recommend doing internal balance if you can afford it though rather than the external balance kits.

If you get an internally balanced kit you can use an off the shelf neutral balanced flexplate.
