Well yeah, it would have. If your C10 had a V6, it would have been the compatible 4.3.

An inline six is comparing apples to oranges when in reference to the o.p. wanting to swap out a V6.

My stepb**ch had an 80 w/ a 231 when I was a kid. But it had a 3 speed manual now that I think about it. I would find a donor car like an old caprice. Then you have everything you need for the swap. When your done toss the 6 in the trunk of that car and call the scrap yard. I bet you could come close to breaking even. Thats how we do it here. Any pile o crap will fetch 90 bucks with a title.

And the 4.3 is a truck/van engine, not a car engine.
There are (or was) about a 1/2 million Caprices out there that will take offence to that statement. But no the 4.3 was never in a Camaro.

If the transmission is not a duel pattern tranny then it will fit a buick V8 or V6 but not any chevy motor. If it is the original trans that was put behind a 231 there is like 4 clutchs in the 1st gear pack. These motors have very little torque. Even a 305 trans form that era would be much stronger. If you put a real 350 with 300 ft/lbs of torque and you drive it hard the transmission life would be measured in hours.

Oh yea good luck putting a Buick V6 in a pickup. I hope you have a welder and a lot of time. I think a truck with no motor or tranny would be worth more then a truck with that low torque POS motor. that would be a huge down grade from the I6. Atlease in a truck

LOL 1/2 ghetto *** donks out there maybe. Ever went for a ride in a hopped up Grand National? I am a hugh fan of the 231. The guy that lives across the street from me (my new house) is an former NHRA Stock Eliminator Stock record holder w/ a 231 powered Buick Park Avenue. I can't remember his ETs off the top of my head, but I wanna say he's deep in the 12s. The thing put 6" inches under the right front. I can't find any real evidence to back this up, so the next time he has a yard sale (thats how I know he lives there, he has a tool sale once a year) I'll ask for some pics or something.

Yeah, but we weren't talking about those dinky V8's (262 ci, 4.3). The engine I referenced to was the 4.3 truck V6 (also a 262).

definitly wont fit,4.3 is only one that will, top of a boc tranny is concave, best buy engine tranny combo.better yet parts car v-8 then you have everything.better yet if you dont know what your doing sell 6 cyl car buy v-8 car better suspention and all things done spend time on upgrades instead of just trying to catch up

WOW I'm lost. The guy wanted to do a V8 swap. Now everyone is talking about BOP trannies and everything else besides the question. Big ole pissing contest.

I still stand by my statement, instead of trying to accumulate parts separately. I would buy a Caprice, or a truck although the truck motor mounts wont work. Anything with a SBC would be a good donor. This saves time and money. You'll have everything needed to put it in. Fuel pump, accessory brackets, tranny, you name it. Many trips to the junk yard to get this or that. Then think of the price of a clapped out rust bucket. Score one for 500 bucks and your right at the price of a running 350 anyhow. Then what we do around here is send it all to the junk yard when were done. They give us 90 bucks and come pick it up. Usually we fill ever nook and cranny with left over parts from various projects that accumulate over time. Like old brake rotors and water pumps and such.

Good luck with your swap. If your still around
