Default 1981 Camaro Carb question

I just bought a new edelbrock carburetor for my 1981 camaro and after installing the car will start but die quickly from running to rich and then be flooded and wont start for a while. I am not great with carburetors but have enough mechanical sense to where if I am told what to do or try then I can do it.

Everything is adjusted to what the instructions say to be but will not work.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

"New" doesn't always mean free from defects. It's possible the float isn't floating, or the float level is set too high, or a chunk of crud got stuck in the needle/seat.
Also, what type of fuel pump are you using? You wanna make sure it's not putting out too much pressure for the carb to handle (too high will push fuel past the closed needle & seat).

I'd guess Chuck is probably right about fuel pressure! Seems to be the most common problem with new carbs whether they are Edelbrocks or Holleys. Anything over about 6 lbs. will cause it to flood out.
