Default 1980 z28

Hey guys,

My names Chris and today I purchased a matching numbers 1980 Camaro Z/28 with T-tops. It's floor pans are rusted and its in pieces, but its a Z/28 with T-tops and a 350 with a turbo 350 tranny. It's got a set of centerline racing wheels and a 12 bolt posi-trac rear end. It's in shambles, but for $650.00 it was worth it to me. I'm normally a Mustang guy, but I have loved Camaros since I was a kid. This will be my first full restoration, but now that I have a garage and a Mustang for a daily driver I have the ability to work on the Camaro slowly. I want to strip the car to bare bones and sandblast the unibody and start from there. No pictures yet, but tomorrow I will be trailering the Rust Bucket home and post some. I may need some help so everybody get ready to answer questions. Thanks for everyones support and I love that I can be a part of something greater.

-Chris

Default why the mustang

It's a long story. I have always been into cars since I was a kid. I started off loving American muscle and then as a teenager I fell into a bowl of rice. I thought Civic's were cool and then one day I had an epiphony. American muscle is where it's at. I started to drool over Muscle Mustangs and Fast Ford's covers and had to have a Mustang. I joined the Army and they sent me overseas twice so it put a road block in my journey to American Muscle. When I got back from Iraq though I was free to pick and choose and I found a beautiful fireengine red 06 Ford Mustang GT and fell in love. I have had other vehicles, mostly japanese and I had a Plymouth Acclaim which I worked on all of them, but now all I want is a V8 under the hood and big rear end with some 10 inch tires to smoke. Thats how I ended up with the Mustang. A couple of weeks back I told my wife I wanted to restore an old car and then I started searching for a childhood dream. Now I've got the Z28 I've always wanted. Oh yeah one thing I said about the car is not true. It's not fully numbers matching. I forgot about the rear end. It's a 12 bolt from a 1970 so while it's not numbers matching it will definitely hold up at the track where as my Mustang worries me with its stock rear end and 3.55's.

Welcome to the forums! I just picked up myself an 80 z28 as well, love the cars, she doesn't have rust but no engine. Ttop as well. I have started pulling the whole drivetrain, have the 350 rebuilt and 3.42 gears. Well I hope you have fun with your z! They are fun to work on and even more fun to drive. If you need any parts etc. feel free to ask!

Just another beautiful Sunday.

Welcome guys. The full frame off is long road. I know I'm on it. This forum keeps me motivated though. Once I do something new I can't wait to take a pic and post it. My camera is starting to get as greasy as me. I can almost see the end of the road and I have the itch to drive the snot out my car.

Hey guys, just joined today because I also just picked up a 1980 Z28 with t-tops. The car runs, but has a 305 in it. I should check to see if it is the original motor, but I'm going to put a new 388 stroker in the car no matter if it is the original.

I've looked all over and havnt been able to find exactly what made up the second generation camaro z28 performance package. Any links that you guys know of with specifics?

This will be my 2nd. I got a 1981 Camaro when I graduated High School and thought it was a really fun car to drive.
