Default 1980 ss and 454 big block

I have a question. I have a 1980 ss im fixing to purchase and my dad has a chevy with a 454 in it that he is selling. I want to take the 454 and drop it in the car. The 454 has a mild cam on it nothing fancy untill i get it and fix it up for racing. Im curious to know how the motor mounts are going to work if i will have to replace them and if i will have to do any custom work to the front end to make the engine fit. Ive never dropped this big of an engine in a car like this so any information anyone has would be useful thanks.
Matt

Use the mounts that are on your small block in the Camaro and it will work fine. If the Camaro has AC there will be clearance issues with the heater/AC box or hoses. Tall valve covers wont fit around the brake booster, so if it's got them you'll need to change to short or a small booster.
Of course the hood wont clear, so you'll need a cowl hood, or hood scoop to fit over the air cleaner. Upper and lower radiator hoses will work, but need to be trimmed a bit shorter, or buy new for a big block Camaro.
Be sure you use all the brackets for accessories from the 454 too!

Hi Matt. Welcome to CF. I put a BB in my 72 with little issue at all. I changed my small block frame mounts to the BB mounts and used an aftermarket motor mount.
Prothanes - IIRC. I've read you can use the stock mounts with the small block frame mounts but in some instances you might have clearance issues because the engine will sit slightly different in the car. I also went with a smaller diameter brake booster to give me clearance at the (tall)valve cover and heavier springs but some have stuck with their original springs as well.
It's been done by plenty of guys on here already so I'm sure you'll be getting more people chiming in and ready to help you if you have ?????? or problems.

If I lost to a Mustang I'd never tell a soul. That's a secret that would go with me to my grave!

I'm not sure what's worse; losing to a Mustang, or saying you lost to a Mustang when you didn't???????
