1979 Camaro Project For My Father
So I recently picked up a 79 Camaro that me and my dad got when I was a kid. We had plans to restore it when we came into a financial situation and had to sell it to our good friend. Now I got it back from our friend and I am planning on restoring it in secrecy and giving it to my dad when its finished. It needs a lot of typical body work such as floor pans, trunk pans, finder wells, and other tedious stuff. I was just curious if anyone could give me some advice on where I can get stuff without it being too crazily expensive. I am wanting to customize it in ways such as rear disk brake conversion, kind of customize the dash and interior a little bit, but nothing to crazy. I am very proficient with automotive mechanics so please no ignorant comments telling me to let someone else do it. I am just wanting some tips and advice from people who have done stuff like this before. Thanks for your time.
Floor pans, etc., can be purchased off Ebay probably cheaper than directly from most distributors. Of course you'll need a wire feed welder to tack in all these parts. If the floors, and trunk aren't too far gone, a cheaper alternative would be patching them in with 20 ga. sheet metal. A complete 4'x8' sheet is about $40, and will make a lot of small patch panels. I prefer floor pans, and trunk pans if there's lots of rot. But if it's several smaller areas, I'd rather cut and shape my own, and save the money.
