I bought mine for $2495....(of course that was 41 years ago)....but it was still a good price, even for back then.

It was only a year old, and had a sticker price of $4400 new.

People actually used these cars back when they were new! I had a trailer hitch on mine also back in the early 70's when I bought it. I've had mine a little less time at 39 years. I used to hook my utility trailer on the back and throw my top box, slicks, floor jack, and a few parts in the back and head to the drags for the day. Never dreamed of trailering it, and it was my daily driver all week anyway.
I pulled mine off years later, and just put chrome bumper bolts in the holes. Nobody ever notices I have two extra bumper bolts in my back bumper.

I knew that but I was more referring as to why he hasn't taken it off.

Cause I would need a new bumper & some sheet metal....and it was work getting it on in the first place....LoL

I thought about it, but now waited too long....can't believe some prices on stuff!!!

The needle fell off the speedo a couple years ago....had to send it in to get fixed (wanted the original one back in)....it cost $500 to get it fixed!!! Yikes!

The hitch will most likely just stay on...maybe the next owner will remove it....

Could you explain why you'd need a new bumper, and sheetmetal? As I mentioned, I removed mine and just used small bumper bolts to fill the holes. I also put bolts back in the frame area just to keep crud out of the frame.
You can see the two smaller bumper bolts on either side of the original center bolt here:
