Por 15 v. Epoxy Primer
Hi Folks,
I live near the ocean in California where it is often foggy. I have my grandfather's 1968 Camaro which although always garaged does have some surface rust. I am going to restore it which the main focus is keeping it original and to prevent any future rust. The paint is ralley green (code JJ). I am going to take it down to bare metal and paint it as close to the original color as possible. I have gotten several estimates which all differ in wanting to use Por 15 or an Epoxy Primer to prevent future rust from coming back. One person says we should us Por 15 over the entire car. One person says the paint won't adhere to Por 15 and will eventually flake off. Whereas the other person says the dust free blasting will get rid of all the rust and use a chemical that will prevent rust from coming back. Then he will put an epoxy primer on top of that will prevent any future rust. I have ready multiple articles online which say both are correct and wrong. The person using epoxy primer says he can give me a 10 year warranty. The person using Por 15 can not give me a warranty. Yet, I don't want to have to do this again in 10 years either. What is everyone's experience with this matter? Thank you in advance for your insight.
