Exclamation '69 Window Trim

I finally got my windshield put in and Im ready to put the trim back on but the top and bottom pieces are in pretty bad shape from the fire. I have been told that I can polish them. What are they made of? Ive heard they are Stainless Steel but they dont look like it to me. then again they dont look like theyre chrome plated either. you guys ever polish any? and what did you use?

Thanks

They're stainless steel, polish them on a buffing wheel. Go lengthwise, crosswise will grab the wheel and bend the trim and/or rip it outta your hands.

Your ball is too soft to cut the stainless if you have scratches or heavy imperfections. This will give you some idea...I'm sure you must have an arbor just like this in your garage too!

As said, they are stainless and I've had good luck with chrome polish and a washcloth. When the section of cloth is black, this black is a good sign the polish is working, swap cloth to a new area.

I like to use a product called Flitz, I'm sold on it.
It works ten times better than chrome polish, and can be used on any metal or painted surface.
Maybe you can get away with doing only a "hand job", but if the trim is scratched or gouged, you'll need to buff em.

ok, I ended up using The Mothers Polish that I use on the Aluminum Wheels on my truck. man that black stuff was tough too, lacquer thinner wouldnt even cut it. but that polish compound along with the little cotton wheels that came with my Dremel that I thought Id never use did the trick! it was a mess but man that trim shines like brand new.
this was the "two piece" bottom trim, it was the worst...
