Default What Engine do I have?

I have an engine in my garage and I don't know how to identify it. My father left all his stuff behind years ago, I rebuilt my 67 camaro and he had a spare engine but I never knew what it was. Quick search revealed it may be a 67 or 68 camaro engine but how do I find out for sure?

On the right front of the block there is a pad with a partial VIN and numbers that will identify what the engine was originally installed in if the block hasn't been decked. The block casting number and date can also help. This link should help show what you should be looking for.

Thank you, so it looks like it's a 1968 327 camaro motor, any idea what these engines sell for? It would be great to find the car that goes with this motor but that's a needle in a hay stack lol.

Finding a needle in a haystack would probably be much easier actually.
Considering it's a 50+ year old engine chances are pretty good that the car doesn't even exist anymore.
As for value of a '68 327 much depends on what 327 it is and the condition it's in.
We know it's not the high performance 327 if it's from a '68 Camaro,a '68 for performance engines would have been a 350 or 396 in an SS or a 302 in a Z28 so at best it's a 275hp 327.
If you did find that proverbial needle in a haystack and the owner of the car wanted the original engine for a restoration that would be a game changer but a garden variety 327 is probably worth about $500-$800 as a used runner and a couple hundred as a rebuildable at least in my neck of the woods.

So I found actually found the car, the owner is someone I knew from childhood. The original engine had close to 100,000 miles on it and needed a rebuild, his dad owned an auto shop so he just threw a 350 with low miles in it, and my dad acutally bought his motor for cheap. Crazy that he would toss the original motor aside

I think you should consider going out and buying a Lotto ticket. Luck must be watching over you.
