Default Can you call this 68 SS numbers match?

I recently purchased a Convertible 1968 Camaro SS with a 350/295 that is numbers correct on the block casting information (3914678) and the stamped J14 (Sept) date is exactly 4 weeks before the car build date and matches what you would expect to see from the protect-o-plate perfectly. The heads are also the cast iron dual camel hump.
The M21 transmission matches and the 12 Bolt Possi rear end looks correct too.

The only problem is the engine was decked so the partial VIN is not on the front pad but everything else is dead on and matched the protect-o-plate perfectly including build dates that you would expect to see on the engine.
He are the protect-o numbers.
Location C Value=124678NXXXXXX (1968 Convertible)
Location E Value=V1016MS (Flint Motor Oct 16th 350/295 w/Manual ***Engine is stamped Correctly**
Location F Value=BS0930G **** " 3.31 Posi Chevy Gear/Axle **Correct on Car***
Location H Value=P8R13 Muncie 4 speed ***Correct on Car***
Would I be out of line to refer to it as a numbers correct car?

period or date correct would be better
As numbers matching means just that the vin on the pad matches the vin on the dash!! sucks that it was decked but i wouldnt pay thousands more for a date correct motored car!! JMHO

You might be able to retrieve the lost stampings by acid etching the block pad: http://www.chevy-camaro.com/faq/chev...storation.shtm

That's what I was thinking as well, the same method cops use to get the numbers off guns that have been filed off or stolen motorcycle engines etc.

Thanks Guys, I have heard of the Acid process before but don't think I will try it myself as I tend to spill my beers, so I can only imagine how dangerous I would be with any type of acid. Well I think I made out pretty well with the car anyways so I will just count my blessings..

Numbers correct = Meaning everything is the correct year. (sound like you can prove that.) I can make my 67 Numbers correct I can not make it numbers matching. Well, I can but we are not suppost to talk about that

Numbers matching = Vin number correct and intact as it was when it left the factory. Most collectors that are looking for numbers matching car want to be able to show the car or compete in shows. When your up against 150 cars that have their numbers plain as day you have already lost.

Thanks Gorn, I thought numbers correct would be a honest description..

And I do know there are those out there that restamp the pad on the block and we all know it's a dirty little secret but I agree with you that there is noting wrong with a numbers correct car for us living in the real world..

By the way that Red 67 looks almost exactly like my 68 (less the wing windows)
