just purchased a 69 ss with a rebuilt 396. i have some details about the build and wondering what HP to expect. I know the dyno is the best way, but curious as to what others guess. i have 3 weeks or so before we crank her up.

specs...

396 bored .060 over, 10.5/1 TRW forged pistons, 3/8 conn rods, cast crank, oval port heads, colid lifter cam, aluim roller rockers, com cams - push rods - and valve train, holley 650, headman headers, 3 in flowmasters.

I would guess 425ish hp, but curious what others think.

Depends on the cam specs and how well it works with the heads. Auto or manual trans? I can't say what your HP will be, but I bet your torque is gonna be real nice.

 

dont have the cam specs. It has a newly rebuilt Muncie M21 4 speed and 12 bolt rear with 411 gears. No planned interstate time, but will be a fun in town driver.

Right now putting on 12 in Wilwood disc brakes all around and struggling with wheel/tires. Want to get 18x8 on front and 20x10 on rear. Its gonna b very close on the fit...

As for the "Budbrown" post below - no - not really looking for any affirmation... just ACTUALLY wondering what someone with experience in the matter thinks

 

You'll see more horsepower since it's manual, but without cam specs, my best bet would be around 420-435 horsepower. That cars gotta have some throttle response with it with those 4.11s. Haha. But a dyno test will be the only way to confirm or deny that. Any chance we get pictures?

Curious as to why you went with such big rims? 18s aren't too big, but in my opinion, any thing bigger isn't really meant for our cars, but to each his own.

As for the quote in my sig, that wasn't something directed at you if you didn't know, it was just something he said in a post of mine months ago that made me laugh.

 

I'll post some pics soon. right now its got dynomat in the interior and nothing else. New wiring harness and all new "stock" interior going in next week. Brakes should also get finished next week or the following.

The car has coil-overs and is lowered quite a bit. The 18x8 and 20x10 is what my buddy has on his 70 Nova and they are tucked in and look great. I'm going for a similar stance that he has. We'll know what actually fits once the brakes are installed.

which 12" wilwoods did you get? Did you get the 12.19" Dyna Lites or the 12.88"?

The factory 396 for that year, with 11:1 CR and a Holley carb was rated 375 HP. I suppose you might hit 425, but I'd be leaning more towards the 375-400HP range.
