Hey all, first post to the forum. Been a member of the corvette forum for yrs. I am a 69 camaro guy, and currently have a fathom green RS-Z X-33 D-80 car. Any way, while getting parts from guy today I came across an original MO 68 motor complete minus intake. There is a vin on it, is there any way to track camaro vins like the corvette register has ? I would like to see if the car is still out there. Thanks for your help. Troy

 

Sorry to say but no, I know for people looking for their dad's long-lost car a PI is about the only option and I am sure that will get pricey if you do not know the State. You could post the vin on sites like this in hopes someone will do a vin search and contact you.

If you do find a better way let us know. When Papa John was looking for his car he put up a 1/4 million dollar reward. It still took a year and the money was collected by the string of people who bought and sold it.

I would not rebuild it. If it is the right casting date number for someone restoring a car they would want to control how and who rebuilds the motor. To collectors untouched can be worth more than rebuilt. There is no way of knowing if the collector wants to build it, a stock looking monster, or a rebuild with everything new or just a ring and bearing job. Even if you built exactly what they wanted most high-end builders will have the guys they trust tear it down. and go over everything.

Also there is a very good chance the collector is going to pull motor and remove the heads so the block can be restamped with the "correct" Vin. If this is done on the original press then the motor will need torn down completely.
