I've got a 69 307 with a TH350. Transmission went out and it's cheaper to replace than to rebuild. Neighbor had a "good" TH350 without a torque converter.

So I'm trying to get a new TC but all the catalogs sell by the stall rating. I don't know the stall.. I want it to run/shift like it did before so I want the same stall, not a best guess. I could re-use my old torque converter but that would mean running it out to a shop to have it cleaned out and that turns the transmission replacement job into a two-nighter.

I even have an old part number we found in a book for this TC but I don't know if that would be of any use. A local Chevy dealer couldn't find anything based on the number..

I'd like to know if you can tell me what stall this car would have been running with stock. I've googled around quite a bit but I have been unable to locate a definite answer. Thank you

Right, I've been all over Jegs and Summit, etc. The chart you posted requires that I know all of that other information as well...

All I need is a stock replacement Torque Converter. Or to know what the stall rating is in the specific stock TQ that I currently have. Isn't there an easier way to get this information?

 

If all you are looking for is a stock unit, you can get a remanufactured one from Rock Auto for less than $100. Since they are rebuilt to factory spec, the performance should be like the original factory stock. Stall speed of torque converter is not a definite number as it depends on how much torque the engine puts out. All things equal, the more power the higher the stall speed, until the torque converter converts itself into shrapnel. lol

 

thank you. I guess I was over thinking it a little. The rock auto website agrees with autozone, which I had already looked at, but I didn't want to trust my Camaro to autozone's website.. I had wanted to order a quality one from Summit or somewhere similar but they require you to know the stall. So I guess it's safe to say the stall is 1700-1900.

 

stock stall is usually 1800.

 

As suggested, good choices given.
Mine is if you want to 'lighten up' the performance alittle, you might look into a Saturday Night Special TC, stalls around 2000-2200 rpm, for a slight quicker acceleration and you can use the same set-up in the Camaro as stock.

Just a suggestion, nothing wrong with stock.
