transmission question pervious tire chirp
I have a turbo 350 auto in my 1967 camaro. about 25 years ago we had a shift kit put in it and it would chirp the tires from 1st to second. something happened and they trans broke after they rebuilt it no longer will it chirp the tires from fist to second. its nice and firm but no more tire chirp.
what might have been changed and what could I do to return it the way it was. Over 25 years car has about 4000 or 5000 miles on transmission so I dont thinkIits worn.
Thanks for any help

A shift kit involves altering the valve body to reroute and increase fluid pressure. There are a couple different performance levels that you can set it up to at the time of rebuild (heavy duty or hi performance). I would presume that when your transmission was later rebuilt, the trans was not set up to the same degree that it was originally at. Do you know what alterations were done to your present transmission?
I dont really remember other than a shift kit being installed. I worked super for a few months then broke and repaired. been that way for 25 years. It works ok but it just doesnt give tire chirping shifts like it did when the shift kit was originally installed. do you happen to know anyone in southern california who might beable to return it to the previous settings?
Thanks for your help

With age, seals harden, The harden seals tend to allow fluid by them (less pressure). I would considered a 25 year old automatic losing its crisp shift as normal aging.
You have changed the fluid? Aged fluid can cause a sloppy shift also. I don't think you are going to get back to "like new" but fresh fluid can help.
With automatics miles wear out the clutches and time kills the seals.

What I gathered out of your first post is that the trans initially chirped the tires, something happened shortly after and the trans was rebuilt, and immediately after that the tires no longer chirped? If that's what you're saying, age has nothing to do with it since this was from 25 years ago. Then you're still back on the deal of the trans not being set up the way it was at first.
Or, are you saying the tires chirped after the last rebuild 25 years ago, but they don't today? Then, that would suggest dried seals.
Or, are you saying the trans was rebuilt just recently?

My bad,,, you are right Camaro 69. This is a easier one to answer.
They put your transmission back to stock. Most of your hard 1-2 shift comes from a light or no accumulator sping. A new stock accumulator spring would come with the kits. If the tech noticed anything funny about the valve body he would have swapped it out. Remember there was most likely a warranty with the rebuild. Most shops would require you to upgrade some of the internal hardware in the transmission for them to warranty a transmission with a shift kit. Without that agreement everything goes back stock.

No trans was rebuilt 25 years ago. after it broke 25 years ago and how it finctions today is the same, no worse or different. The change was from the original build and when it broke a couple months after. (Occcuring 25 years ago) no longer a chirping shift 1st to 2nd
I dont think the kit was removed from what I remember. So was it likely they changed the shift kit settings?
