Default transmission help

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but here goes. My 67 currently has the power glide it came with and 410 gears. Its fun to drive for short periods but take it to town and it over heats easily. I bought a 700r4 to put in the car this winter and was wondering if this is a good choice and if there is anything I need to do to it to beef it up. Car has a 350ci with around 400hp.

thanks

I would ditch the 4:10s with a 700r4. The first gear is so steep you'll have to shift instantly. A 3:73 would be nice, even a 3:42.

I'd run it with the 410's and see what you think --i had that set up in my 55 Chevy and liked the 342's better--depends if you going long distances or the quarter mile??

The 700r4 is a good choice. It is basically a t400 with an overdrive. It is, however, longer than the trans you would be taking out, so the crossmember needs to be moved backwards and the driveshaft shortened. A 2004R is a better choice. They put them in Grand Nationals, so they can take some serious hp. Plus, you can use the same driveshaft as they are essentially the same length. Note: the 2004r is canted at 15 degrees and needs a different crossmember. I installed a 2004r in my 69 and drove it for years. Both the 700r4 and the 2004r have a TV cable to the carb. Also, you will need to dimple the floor pan to get the speedo cable to fit without kinking. You can use your horseshoe shifter by buying the shifter conversion kit (forgot who makes it). The only other thing I remember being different is running power to the trans to make the converter lockout work. Eliminate this issue by using a non-lockup torque converter.
