Default T5 install in my 69

OK before everyone jumps on me, my car is a show car so the WC t5 will holdup fine for me. Need the OD because I drive to shows. I have everything ready to go in except the crossmember. I am bolting the trans to my 4 speed bellhousing, which means the trans will be strightup. Yes the trans bolts up just had to make the bolt holes in trans 1/2 inch instead of 12mm. Have special shifter for this install so no problem there. But will the rear trans mount be at an angle? I guess I have to weld a tab to the crossmember to move it back 2 inches because the trans is 2 inches longer or can I just move the crossmember back weld side mounting plates to it to bolt in on the side instead of from the top. Has anyone done this setup in their 69 camaro. Gen 3 F bodies use same crossmember for 700 and 5 speed. Is the trans mount up closer to front?
The trans will not move up and down because I have solid motor mounts shound be no angle problems. Also what is the crossmember tap drop. Any info please.

Default t5 install

Well install is done. Not bad 3 hours on a lift. I have install a console. The only problem is the speeedo. I put the gear for 3.73 rear, but speedo is off 15 mph(fast). Only fix is to have a custom speed reducer made. There is no gear that will fit to make speedo correct. I love it my gas mileage went from 8 mpg to 29 mpg hwy. driving. The engine is no longer screaming at 65 mph.

Look into getting a ratio adapter, it installs on the speedo gear housing and the cable attaches to that.
Just go easy on the T5, GM never put one behind anything bigger than a 305 for a reason.

I bought one from PATC will be here monday. I don't beat the car. I would kill this tranny in one day if I did. I have a 350 dual quads, Bow tie 292 angle plug heads, Iski cam, roller rocker arms 12.5-1 compression. I just drive it to cruise ins and car Shows. I built this engine in 1992 and have only have 7500 miles on it. Last year I finished a 2 year resto on her. I worked 6 days a week for 2 years on her.

29 MPG out of a dual 4 barrel? its over drive not a Miracle. A 6 speed with 2 overdrives and factory fuel injection can not do that. You put a trans in you high end car that is not designed to hand half the torque the motor out puts? It is a trans designed for a V6 and "upgraded" to handle low torque V8. GM said the T5 would not handle the torque of the 240 HP TPI 350 release in 86. You pushing 375+? It would really bother me to know that if the need came up I could not even get on my car for fear it would just send parts across the road.

lol...he got "29 miles per gallon" because the 3.73 gears are making his speedometer go way faster now. Speed on the needle and clicks on the odometer is a bit more than actual distance traveled.

I 'm not going by milage traveled on the speedo. I go to several different places once a month. I know the distance on the trip. I filled the car up with gas before I left and refilled it upon my return. I divided the gas used into the ACTUAL milage to get the figure. Also we now have ethanol free 94 oct. gas here in florida.

So a 20% change in RPMs got you 3.5X the fuel mileage. Just think if you put a 6 speed in you could hit 50+ MPG.

I have dual quads, and my gas mileage is more like 29 miles to the gas station! Don't take this personally, but there's no way in hell your car is averaging 29 mpg. The way you're figuring it is still a guesstimate. Wait until you get the speedo correct, then check it for real.

Think of it this way. At 8 MPG and 5 gallon of gas at 60 MPH your car would only run for 40 minutes. You motor is consuming 6.66 Gallons per hour.

At 29 MPG and 5 gallon of gas at 60 MPH you car would run 2.4 hours on the same gas. Same engine requiring the same output HP now uses 2.1 Gallons per hour. All from a decrease of RPMs of just 20%?

It this is true then you have bested GM best engineers and millions in research and development and found a way to build a green hot rod with off the shelf parts. You are going to be VERY wealthy.

Seriously the 1st gen is a shoe box when it comes to cutting thru the air I doubt you could hit 29 MPG with a modern 4 cylinder and a 6 speed in there.
