A picture of the existing setup would help. Since your car had no console, it might be as simple as just moving the mounting base back 2", or it might take some custom work to make the Hurst work with a factory console.
I have a B&M in a factory console on my '71, and had to custom mount it and space it to make it work. I also had to build a custom cover to adapt to the factory opening, and a custom boot to dress it. Combining factory and aftermarket parts is rarely a direct boltin.

Your shifter might have the wrong mounting plate putting it too far forward on the trans. Or, you may need to adjust where it mounts (the holes are slotted). You may even have to customize (elongate) the mounting holes. See if you can find a part number stamped on the plate, then look it up to see if it's the right one for your car.

Hurst also makes offset handles that will reposition the handle. Might be an option for your car to get the handle to sit in the console.
