Default anyone do a th350 to 2004r swap?

Put 3.23 posi gears in the rear of my car. Has a mild 350 in it with a th350... and it roasts my tires in 1st and i'm in 3rd gear by 40 mph and at 55-60 i'm close to 2500 rpms.... I want to be able to burn the tires a little bit and murder rice burners when needed but i'd also like to be able to drive on the interstate without running 2500-3000 rpms the whole time. Anyone have any experience swapping to the 2004r trans or know anything about it? any info is appreciated......

*haven't been on in a while, my house and shop and all possessions were flooded in August and I've just recently been able to have some free time to enjoy the car.

I wouldn't go with a 2004R,they are finicky/junk and hard to find(<---just my opinion). You could go with a 700R4 they are better suited for the swap. 700 has a low first gear for that tire burning your looking for and it has over drive and lock up so you can get decent gas mileage.
They are easier to find and can be beefed up to handle a lot of power.

I don't have th350 to 200r4 but it can be done. I believe they were in "g" body monte SS and such. Not the strongest but if you build it right it will live. I went from power glide to 700r4 in my 68 vert. Pretty easy. Shorten the drive shaft 2" and move the crossmember back some. Same trans mount. You will need to buy a TV cable for your trans and get the bracket to hook the TV cable to your carb. Also get a universal shift linkage kit. Mine was auto on the column so that's what I stayed with. Good luck. Brent

I swapped out a T350 for a 200 4R in my 69 Camaro. A 200 4R will live behind a mild 350. No problem. It bolts right up. You need the trans, dip stick, torque converter, metric bolts for torque converter, tv cable, tv cable to carb adapter, special cross member, a hot wire for torque converter lock up, and if you want to floor-shift all of the gears, you need a shifter conversion kit.
On mine, the speedo cable hit the floor. Use a hammer and massage the floor or the speedo cable will get a hot-spot and break. Regardless, it's unlikely your speedo will read correctly. I pretty sure I used the stock length driveshaft.
I might be forgetting some stuff, but that's the bulk of it.

I am doing a 2004r installation now. Found BTO overdrives to be very helpful and have pretty much everything. I ordered the aluminum drive shaft for a TH350 and its a direct fit.. The reason you go with a 200 instead of a 700 is the first to second gear shift is better suited for our cars in the 2004r. You can order them with up to 700 horsepower custom builds and they work great. BTO offers the 3 year unlimited mileage as an option for the warranty.. I have not started the car yet but so far it is a pretty much bolt in operation...

IceCobra,
Please let me know how this works out for you and the differences good or bad of switching. For now (due to funding) I will be swapping my rear gears from 3.23 to 2.73 for a bit as it's a cheaper swap for now.

So far it is all bolt in. I am about to start the car for the first time and hoping all goes well. Its a 383 stroker 451 HP on the dyno sheet. The trans arrived pretested and run from BTO and they have been very helpful with providing information on the installation of the trans. Hoping to get it running next weekend and able to test drive by the end of the month or so. I have a cruise night coming up in March I really want to attend.. I will let you know how it works out as soon as I hit the pavement..
