Default 67 camaro 502 suspension questions

I got a 67 with a 327 in it now and just got a 502 crate engine(502hp. 567torque) i was wondering about what suspension set up i should go with. The car is rarely driven, itmore of a weekend warrior and a few trips to the track. I see all kind of set ups but i'm not sure whats right for me. I'm a newbie when it comes to muscle cars but not cars in general i do all the work on other cars(turbo imports). I just want a street/strip set up that can handle the power and handling would be nice but i deal with a rough ride.Any info would be great. Thanks

Chuck

Depends on the depth of your pockets. But, with that kind of power I would install frame connectors and go with a four link setup. That is, if you plan on taking it to the strip. Much more tunable for racing. Just don't buy the cheap stuff, those kits are what gives four links a bad name. Get one with good bushings that will last.

you do not need a 4 link, there are many 8 second stock type suspension Camaros at the tracks, all those 4 links that all of a suden just poped up out of nowhere are just something different to offer the customers that believe that if it's trick it must work, the fact is that Camaros were not designed to package a 4 link therfore what ever is available is a big compromise that is only superior to the 40 year oldstock leaf springs and shock design so you can do as good or better with the right leaf springs and shocks to work with YOUR combo and save thousands

I have a 67 with a 502 in it many changes were needed. My car was a 327 car alsonew motor mounts bb, bb springs, you will have a problem with clearence on the stering bar. change the radiator to 4 core.trans cooler will help I rebuilt the suspension. but kept it original but all new. also change the heatercore to bb for clearence headers are close to the stering box change stering ratio. if i canhelp let me know fast1966@comcast.net

the four links became popular to replace leafs.

I dont think id put a 4 link in a coil car, however ive pondered it for the sheer tuneability.

The cost of a four link is not even close to thousands over the cost of modifiying stock suspension. The components are easily available and the cost is not as much as some people would make it to be. With leaf type suspension, after changing the springs and shocks you can still have problems with spring wrap and tracking. Both of these are easily adjusted for with four link without adding more parts or major modifications. Also add to that the flexibility of ride height, I put four link in with air suspension in the rear for about $1600. You could do coilovers for less.

all you really need is a good set of big-block springs up front to carry the added weight of the new engine

as far as the 4 link set-up goes, I would stay away from it if I were you. they aren't really that great for the street (and they clunk a bit) and if you like going to the track "once in a while" you will just get real aggravated with it while trying to dial it in.

just change your front springs and have fun with the car
