2" drop spindles not working - cut coils?
I found that 2" dropped spindles (+disc brake conversion) are not working out for the combination I have on my '69 Camaro. The outside of the tire rubbing in the inner fender in very tight turns is something I can live with, but even with only 215/60-15 tires, I get the tie rod ends rubbing on the inside of the tire. There is ~1/2" clearance between the tire and the tie rod end, but there seems to be enough flex in the tire to rub.
I am thinking of going back to the original (drum brake) spindles with disc brake adapters and get the stance back by cutting the coils with a cutoff wheel. Would cutting 1/2 coil get me a 1 1/2" to 2" drop?
I think this would move the tie rod end up inside the wheel so that I could go to 225/60 or 235/60 tires.

I am in a similar boat, I want to convert to disc brakes all around and haven't done so yet because I am trying to figure out the best way to lower the front as well on a 67. Hopefully someone can steer us in the right direction.
Just be very careful about tire & wheel combo if you go to dropped spindles. Dropped spindles raise the position of the wheel relative to the tie rod ends, so that the tie rods ends that were tucked up inside the wheel are now located at the widest part of the tire - at least this ended up being the case for me. Larger (16" or 17" wheels would probably get the tie rod end back inside the wheel, but want to stick with the wheels I have (1980-1981 Camaro Z28's; Monte Carlo S/S).
Think about the tire/wheel combo you want before committing to dropped spindles!
