Default And So It Begins, Another 69 Project

And so it begins. My journey through the joys of resurrecting a “69” Camaro starts today. She started out as a 6 cylinder auto and is likely to end up with a modern LS w/6 speed transmission and modern running gear. She is dirty and a little rusty, but she is straight. Wish me luck.

Hopefully, it doesn't look too bad when you strip it down.

Well she is starting to tell her story. 44 years of rust is a real *****. But with some WD40 and a day or so soaking I only broke one bolt, cut one off, and broke a few nut clips. All were going to be new when she goes back together anyway.

Found some body filler where I didn't expect it. But all in all it is just like I suspected. The hole in the right front fenter has some damage to the fender, the front lower, and the fender liner. I will know more once I tear those apart from each other.

Look at the body just below the heater fan, and the lower fender mount. Both look like they have damage.

Good luck with your project. Mine started out the same way, a 6 cylinder with a powerglide. Macco worked on mine and you could tell from the amount of plastic that was in the quarters. Needless to say, I already had new GM quarters and I quickly cut the "plastic" ones off.

Default Slowly, Another 69 Project

One thing I hate about web pages is that they time out after awhile. Usually it is when you pause after making some good comments about your project. I don’t remember exactly what I wrote the first time but the gist of the story is the same.

The project is coming along slowly. The rebuild of the bank account is painful. I can only hope that it stays on schedule. That will help me meet my 2 year project timeline. While I wait for the account to build in an effort to buy the big ticket items, I have been disassembling the things where I know I have issues.

The front end sheet metal is removed and the rust I anticipated is really not any worse than I thought it would be. The right front fender is in need of major repair, I expected that. I found that it was replaced once with a non GM fender, and was repaired once after there placement. The right front is probably in for a fender, lower fender, and inner fender. I will play with it and see what I can salvage. The left front has some rust behind the wheel opening, and I think I can repair that.

The front and rear window trim was removed and the windows literally fell out. Fortunately the rust that does exist isn’t too bad. It can all be repaired. The front has a spot that is through the top of the dash, but that was going to be replaced anyway because of a hole that was cut in the dash.

I wrote some other stuff the first time but it has slipped my mind for now. So I will post some pictures instead.
