Default How do the different Gen 1 interior kits compare?

I have a '67 factory SS/RS that I've owned since '75 but has been stored for 30 years. The standard black interior was not in great shape when I got the car and has not aged well in storage (mice etc.) I am going to replace "everything" including seat foams, headliner etc. The wood grain steering wheel, 4 speed center console and all the gauges are being retained as they are all good.
Has anyone had any expeience as to the difference in quality of the product from aftemarket supplies? I would rather pay a bit more if the kits vary in quality.
New here but scanning the post it looks like a great group.

I have known that I would be replacing every piece of my Interior since the day I brought my Camaro home. Over the last few years of reading forums and talking to vendors at swap meets and stuff, It seems like the overwhelming majority of people say that PUI is the best of the best when it comes to quality, fit and finish. With that said, I was actually at a big meet in Biloxi back in October and got to see, touch, and smell their stuff first hand. It made up my mind that I would be going with them. but my lucky stars have since brought me all the interior out of a 69 so I will not be buying anything from them after all. If you do decide to use them please post here what you experience with them and their stuff.

here ya go... have a look and do some reading. they put alot of effort into the details.

Same as above, I have some PUI stuff in my car and it's nice stuff.

If your not going for correct look, I installed a pair of seats from ProCar in a 78 Firebird and that stuff is very close to factory look but with a better feel in the padding area. Seats · PROCAR
He also got the mounting kit as well and it's nice stuff.

Default Thankss..

I'll try to get up to Steves Camaro in San Bruno to get some more info on the interior items from PUI as he is listed as a dealer. Any other comments from other members is greatly appreiciated.
I just purchased a 5HP 2-stage 60 gallon air compressor, inline drier and a regulator and will be installing it when it arrives next week as a start to getting my garage ready to get the Camaro out of storage and get working on breaking it down to a body shell. Still finishing up my current project and when that's done the Camaro will be next. Plan on taking the entire car down to "Bare" everything and sandblast then repaint from metal up, hence the need for the bigger compressor.

I purchased a complete interior from PUI and took it all to Don's Auto Trim in Indianapolis for my 68, the best place around that does lots of custom work. He called and said that both seat backs were made wrong. He also called them and told them but they did not seem interested to help. I had to pay Don to rebuild the seat back so it fit correctly. He said that Legendary was the best way to go. Here are some pictures of how bad they were.

The whole seat back was crooked.

I would research these guys: Al Knoch Camaro Interiors
I work on/restore older Vettes as a hobby, and Al Knoch was THE name for interiors. One 69 I restored, I used their seat upholstery, and the basket-weaving portion was exact to the original, where the other brands only had the weave "look" stamped into it. Not to mention the fit was perfect. Their name meant attention to detail, and well known in the Vette circles. I say check into them, because I haven't used their Camaro interiors to compare.

I've used PUI in my car and the experience was so-so. The door panels had a plastic upper portion instead of metal. Normally that wouldn't concern me but being a tech at a dealership I know that plastic can warp in hot climates over time. So with that being said I sent the panels back and got the unfinished panels and used my original upper plates. The seats covers are good quality and were easy to install (for me at least since I've replaced many in new cars). These are the vinyl covers so I can't attest to the houndstooth quality or the custom interior seat covers. I reused my original seat backs so I can't tell you anything about them either.
Good Luck on your project! Show pics of the process please!
