ZZ572 Crate Engine
I'm planning on installing a GMPP ZZ572 crate engine in my 69 Camaro and wanted to know what size cowl hood I will need. I heard that a 2" cowl will not be enough. I really don't want to go 3 -4" cowl.
Please help.
Please help.
That motor looks very similar in height to my 454MPFI in my 69. I had to have a 4 inch once the cleaner was on.

Call GM, ask them for the measured height of the intake, engine, ask them for advice. Dropping that much coin on a engine they should have knowledge of what others have done.
If they can't help I can make some measurements over lunch and let you know what my BBC is in the 69.

Williesrepair,
Thanks a lot for the info. When you say call GM do you mean GMPP?
The ZZ572 I believe is a tall deck BB which is why I'll have the clearance issues but do you know if I will have the similar problem with a ZZ502 BB crate engine.
Thank you for your assistance.

I do any measureing, just went off notes I had in my build folder. I'll try to remember to check the crankshaft to hood tonight. Just plain forgot til I got to work today and check the forums.
EDIT, I just brain farted. I have a bunch of Chevy Power books on the shelf, I used them today for a 396 in a 55' Chevy that was stout as hell but had a hurt valve train.
The tall deck Mark V, from crankshaft center to top of block, 11.0314 inches. The short deck, 10.7519 inches Now get the intake height, then figure where the center of crank will be and your in. My guess, you'll need the 4 inch...
