What should I do-68Z
I know this should probably be in the introduction section but i wanted some specific advice on how to sell my 68 Z. ( Or at least I believe it could have been a Z28 ) I figured the first Gen was a good place to ask.
First let me explain. I bought a it with no engine for the purpose of restoring it. I owned a body shop at one time and still have a shop at my house, so there isn't much I have to farm out. The car has no documentation like the build sheet, protecto plate or original bill of sale. I can make it really nice as it is very solid but I know it will never be a "Barret Jackson car" A car I have been trying to buy for a long time has come available so I need to sell the Z. But because of the color I don't know what is best to facilatate that. British Green. I have a lead on a 69 DZ 302 and possibly a 68 MI or MO engine. I probably should put a 302 back in the car. I will never say it has the original engine but could try harder to locate a proper date coded 68 block if that helps. would I be better off to keep the original color or paint it to one that is popular? If popular what seems to be the best choice? (If some one bought it they could decide on a color if they wanted me to paint it for them.) But at some point I have to start painting the jambs before final assembly.
Points about the car- Front disk brakes, 15 inch tire sticker in glove box, larger fuel line, 12 bolt posi. fender looks like it had holes for Z28 emblem, Multi leaf springs, console with gauges, mannual shift with hurst boot. Front spoiler, tic toc tach, rear spoiler. Front rally wheels, back rally wheels match but are wider. Door skins, GM quarters done and there is some rust on the driver floor and bad place where someone put a aftermarket shifter in it. I already purchased the entire floor pan that replaces both fronts and back. factory exhaust hangers and stock muffler. Front sub frame all new bushings, ball joints, suspension parts. New Cowl hood. That would look better IMO but I know it should have a flat hood if trying to keep original. I listed it at $13,900 OBO on craigs list and have a couple nibbles but can't wait to see if any thing pans out. My goal was to have less than $20K in it.
What do you think I should do to make it as desirable as I can?
Thanks Scott.

honestly do what you want with it. with no way to identify it as a z28 it could be a ss 350 camaro. or it posstibly could be a l30/m20 camaro since it has a 12 bolt and was a manual car. no collector will touch it since its lacking original drivetrain and any documents. them most casual buyers or not serious collectors wanting originality will not care what motors in it or what color it is.

Right now you are listing a shell with a 12 bolt rear for 14K? Is everything else there? New paint I assume? Every region in the country is different but around me that car would sell for $8500-9500 with everything there and painted. I don’t think it is going to worth it to buy Z28 parts and assemble it as an original Z unless everything is rebuilt and a top notch restore I think you will fall short of you 20K expectation. Top notch Z restoration would put you in a hole even if you did sell it for 20K. I have seen some pretty nice 69 Z28 “clones” sell for 18K. 68’s do not bring as much as the 69’s do. 1st gen prices have been dropping since 2008. That price has hurt the unfinished projects value, unfinished project are pretty easy to fine now a days. Most guys want either a finished car to a mostly original car to restore completely. I saw one the other day with 2 new quarters and a new (never started) ZZ4 GM crate motor in it sell for $7500. You would have a tuff time just buying the quarters and engine for that. I see unfinished projects all the time sell for much less than the sum of their parts.
Since you have a body shop you could offer to paint to suit. Or if the car is straight and complete just do a Black or “Sell me” Red paint on it and stick a strong running small bock in there. Then you might hit you 14K with a solid driver. As you know it is very difficult to make money on these cars. It is even tuffer to make money on unfinished cars.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have some time before I make an engine decision. Unless someone wants it or wants me to finish it for them I think I will keep a look out for a MO engine. I know it won't be original but at least similir to what might have been in there. Other wards I can't badge it as a Z with out a 302. Not sure about the color yet. All I can say is I hate the British green
