Default What is my car worth?

Hi everyone, Looking to move on from a car that was inherited dont have the time or space for it currently. I will copy paste the info in here and hoping you can tell me what I can reasonably expect to get out of this. I will try to do the best I can with info here. This ‘69 Camaro has been in our family since 2006. It was my father’s project and he passed away many years ago. He bought the vehicle off of former Yankees/Reds MLB pitcher/coach Don Gullet who left a signed ball in the car which is still there. It is supposedly a three owner (seems to check out on the attached Bumper report) with ~85,000 original miles. It was in amazing shape at the time of purchase but my father (owned a car dealership and was the engine guy for high performance cars) wanted to re-do everything. Over the years since purchase, this has went through a complete frame off restoration with many mods. Nearly every piece on this car has been replaced with quality parts. Mods include a performance crate 350 from Jegs, Hotchkis total vehicle suspension system w/ 2” drop, new tires/wheels, much more and lots of chrome. DM for more info, too much info to list.

-350 performance crate engine from Jegs (~$5000)

-Hotchkis Total Vehicle System Stage 2 ($7000)

-Hotchkis Convertible frame braces ($800)

-Hotchkis quick turn steering box/kit ($700)

-New paint original color ($9000)

-US mags 18” chrome wheel set w/ new tires - tires are only 3 years old ($2000)

-New electric top

-Lots of engine bay chrome - pulleys, valve covers, brake booster (around $2000)

-Grant wood grain steering wheel ($300)

-Holley sniper EFI kit ($1600)

-New stainless steel custom bent exhaust ($1200)

-Headers

-Retro sound stereo w/ Bluetooth plus install ($400)

-Custom kick pods w/ higher end aftermarket speakers (Polk?) ($500)

-Transmission was supposedly rebuilt sometime years back but no documents

-Electronic brake booster installed

-Disc brake conversion ($1500)

-Optima yellow top battery

-Exterior chrome mirrors

-Replacement of nearly every piece of trim, seal, radiator, etc.

-Have documentation/receipts for some of the mods

Car is a major head turner. Interior is in amazing shape. Exterior paint is great with only a few small nicks/scratches. Exhaust sounds amazing. Title in hand.

The bad - Am trying to be as transparent as possible.

-Car has spent the majority of the last 10 years in storage in my personal garage. Recently I was forced to move it to a storage unit as I have ran out of room and thus why we are selling it. In total, has only seen around 300 miles since 2006. The car was winterized and started at least two times a year since storage and saw a mechanic every 3-4 years for maintenance.

-I would consider this car only 95% completed. There are small issues that have popped up over the last few years. Most notably, the left front wheel bearing seems to make a noise when turning a certain direction which comes and goes. I’m sure in the hands of a skilled mechanic could probably remedy these in a week or so with little cost.

-Needs new AC/heater box under hood - old lines were cut needs new lines ran

-AC pump not in place, air is obviously non functional

-The trunk seal leaks but the car has rarely ever been outside but to wash

-Transmission seal leaks - tried to have this fixed twice but still has a tiny drip

Torn and sad to sell this beauty but do not have the time or room to enjoy this currently.

It's hard to put a number on a car like this, the mods are nice but originality is worth more from a collectors point of view.
It's not an SS or Z28 and it is a nice vert but verts can be harder to sell it takes a buyer looking for one.
Geography comes into play as well ,different markets across the country vary quite a bit.
If can swing it an auction like Mecum or Barrett-Jackson might net the most out of it,lots of high rollers at those events.
If I was to pull a number out of my head I'd say somewhere between $50K and $75K.

You may want to check with some of the places that sell high end cars on consignment. Yes they charge but a good reputable place could already have the right people looking for a car like this. Most guys that have that much disposable income do not want to waste time looking at junk cars with hidden rust. They want to vet the car through someone they trust. To get top dollar you want to get rid of that cons list. I mean fix it. All you want to say is just serviced and ready to go. People that buy 65K classic don't want to think that it was worked on this car was not finished. Unfinished work tends to mean a lack of money to do it right or it was done by an amateur.

As for all the new parts, that was all just the way the owner wanted it. I can remember dealers trying to make it less obvious the motor was any newer than anything else. Not saying lie in any way, but you want that air that the car has never had a problem. Custom stuff and restoration is fine, but all the work was correct and complete.

Of course you could find someone that does not care about how the car got in its current condition, heck I have known guys that bought cars like this they blew them apart and made it the way they wanted it.

This is not my personal opinion, just my experience with higher end buyers. Heck I bought a 67 with no roof or windows.

OP

My $.02 is the values noted, and yours, is about right....but to hit that $ the car really needs to be detailed, especially engine bay and undercarriage. Anyone who wants this car will want to drive it so the minor issues of wheel noise and trans ;leak should be addressed and repaired first. I doubt either is much $. Unfortunately, the car has been in storage for some time and not really driven which REALLY affects it mechanically. It may look shiny but have operational issues. AC will likely be the most expensive to repair unless it's just a heater core leaking.

Spend a little time & $ on the repairs to get top $ and an appraisal from someplace like Lemon Squad.A consignment place would be easier for you to sell if you don't want to deal with that but they will get, generally, around 8% commission. Unfortunately consignment places have such a crap rating as they will misrepresent a car severely in terms of how good it really is. They will have a buyer at $50k which after their $ slice will leave you low $40's k. They don't give a F about you, just a quick sell

PP sale using Facebook, CL and if you have the documentation from an appraiser and the car looks and runs great, the high $ is yours
