To make it clear, the 265 and 262 variations weren't necessarily in the same year; as we all know, Chevy has been building the SBC since 1954 (for the 1955 model year).

This is straying off into engine generalities, and not sticking with the 1969 model year Camaro, which is what the question was about. Sure, people have rebadged their 69 Camaro to create a non SS 396, but it didn't come that way from the factory. A 396 was available in the Camaro, but only in the SS model. Chevy didn't even put a 427 in one, those were recreated after the fact by aftermarket companies, or dealers that did "performance" enhancements. The 265 didn't exist after 1956, Chevy essentially stroked it out and created the 283 for the 1957 model cars.

"That's a great listing that obviously a lot of time went into."

Well it did take 10 seconds to copy n paste it, another 40-50 seconds to highlight the words in red so yes it took a minute.

I had the time since I finished the tune-up on my 67 SS307RS a little quicker than I had planned.

I presume you have the appropriate badges on your car to back up those options? heh...heh.

You are absolutely correct, we got way off topic.

The best way i can think of is to check the inside of the front fenders and the rear valence panel to see if there are holes for an "SS" emblem.

Also, like it was said here, there have been a lot of swaps in 41 years....

In fairness to all of us, there is not enough information from the Original Poster to absolutely verify their Camaro ever had a factory installed BB.

"I found out my car was originally a BB Car built in Norwood OH."

How did you find out? Buildsheet? Dealer Invoice? Hear-say? Old Paperwork from 1969? Do you have any pics that you can share? Are there any original parts still on the car? Does the car have 5 leaf springs, 12 bolt rear, or a hanger plate off the passenger side frame rail for dual exhaust? Does your car have power front disc brakes? Is there a X-66 (may or may not be there and still be a SS396) code on the firewall tag?

We need pics and all available info as to what may lead you to believe that your 69 Camaro was originally a BB car.

Wow,

Great info eveyone! Thanks!!!

Sounds like there is still some debate whether all BB Cars were SS cars...

MY car was a Frame off car and the oldest pic I have is on the routisserre in 2009. No old paperwork etc.. but trim tag does have X66 which I think is BB 396.

Just wanted to see if it was a SS car... Not that it really matters, Its proubly worth more as a real nice Yenko clone! Thats what it is and thats how I plan to leave it.

Not at all. As stated earlier, the 396 engine was available only with the SS package.
And your X66 tag code does mean the car was an SS 396 as you suspected. That's as long as the tag wasn't doctored or changed somewhere along the way. And since your car was "cloned" who knows for sure? That's why when trying to document a car like yours, you want to check for other SS tell-tale signs as well.

Thanks, Then that settles it, It was an SS... Unless it was doctored or changed... as you noted.

But like I said, Its a real nice clone and thats all its really ever going to be...

I try not to get too cought up in numbers and codes... It is what it is a True Time Machine - Just a Killer 69 Camaro that is a ton of fun to drive! 500Hp /550TQ Muncie 4 Speed and 4.10 Posi.

Honestly I can't imagine ever selling the car, so it's pointless... Hopefully when I'm 80 and can't enjoy it anymore it will be worth something and help my kids buy a house or send their kids to college...or something?

But until then its all MINE... and unless someone wants to pay me way more than its worth...It will stay that way. These are treasures that we all should cherish and thank god for allowing us to have such fun toys in our lives! we are the envy of many.

I appreciate everyones feedback and I learn more about these cars each time I visit the forum!
