VIN Tag Missing... Should I buy it?
I found a 67 convertible for sale for $5000 and it is in pieces, but every part of the body is in very good condition and ready to paint, as well as the frame. The guy has had the car for 16 years and is now selling it. He said it is missing the VIN tag on the dash, but has the title and the VIN number stampings in the sheetmetal (firewall?) matches the title. I am still waiting for more pictures to be sent to me. I live in Washington State, and am wondering if this is going to be an issue getting this licensed when I get it put back together. What do you all think? If he can't find this tag, can I get it replaced? Or will I even need it if the other numbers match the title? I called Washington State Patrol, but they are closed, so I am wondering if anyone else has had an issue like this.
Thanks!

Are you buying the car in Washington? if so I wouldn't worry about it.
Used to be you had to have any car coming in from out of state inspected by the WSP but since they did away with that there isn't much of an issue as long as you have a title to transfer.
Is the title in the current owner's name? if it is it should be a piece of cake, even if it's not as long as the title is clean and signed off and you get a bill of sale you should be good to go.
I just bought my '93 Z28 in Oregon, the guy hadn't transferred the title into his name but it was signed off and he gave me a bill of sale,I had no trouble transferring it to me and they never saw the car.
I wouldn't wait till you have it back together to transfer the title,do that part right away, you can get the license plates later with no trouble once you have a title in your name.

That 67 isn't missing the VIN tag on the dash.
Only the 67 had the VIN tag mounted on the drivers side door hinge pillar, not the dash.
Might wanna take a closer look in the right place.
