I've worked on/restored a number of C3 Vettes, they have so much stuff that runs off vacuum it can drive you nuts.
I now shave my head, constantly pulling my hair out was getting pretty painful. lol

Haha! I bet.

So I took it off immediately when I got home (before my daughter got home and I got pulled in another direction) and here's what I found.
When you push/pull the rod and I put my finger over either vacuum port it immediately keeps the rod from moving. So just with that simple test it seems to have a good seal.
It looks good except for maybe one suspect area. The rod seems to have some pitting. Not sure how much effect that would have.
Will put some oil in it tomorrow and was thinking about taking the one off the left side that was working perfectly and moving it to the right. If I still have the same problem then I deduce tit has to be insufficient pressure to the right side. (I never found a hose or fitting that looked bad)
Edit: Will attach a picture later as on the mobile version of this site there is no option to do that, that I see)

Good luck with the test. More food for thought... the sealing of the o-ring can react differently from being pushed (how you tested it) vs being pulled (by vacuum).

Just went out and pulled the cover off to look at the left side acutator and it looks brand new. It looks like a updated version with the dust boot. (See pic) I decided not to pull it off. All my hoses look good all connections look tight. Im leaning toward a bad acutator on the right side.

Considering the age of the rubber, that wouldn't totally surprise me.
Which reminds me, it's time to rotate the inventory in my wallet!

Well, I oiled up both sides of the actuator with some silicone lube and we have a winner!!! Granted they are not opening and closing at lightning speeds but they both successfully make the full open and close now! I never would have been able to do it without your guys guidance. And I thank you greatly.
Hopefully someday I can help someone else with this and share the love.
I think someday I will have to replace that right actuator but for now since it's working I think I'll go with it.
Check it out!

Good work.
They weren't lightening fast at new.
Also, consider manifold vacuum - stock camshaft - 18"-20"
Any aftermarket camshaft from stock, lower vacuum = less flow = slower doors.
Could also be misalignment of actuator shafts/linkage/doors.

Yes, thank you Everett. It does have a aftermarket RV cam. I don't really care that they are slow. Only care that they work proper.

Good job man, great accomplishment. When working like new, the headlights take about 2 seconds for both opening and closing. Yours open pretty well, but are a bit sluggish when closing. If you haven't already, lube up all the moving parts, that may help. But yeah, the important thing is that they work. Their slow speed wouldn't concern me, as long as they keep on working.
