Default transmission question 67-68-70 1/2 camaro

i have a 67 68 and a 70 1/2 camaro ..

last year i bought a super street fighter from summitt for my 67 camaro ..

my 70 1/2 RS has a 350TH in her and isnt shifting into 3rd gear i called both summitt and jegs and they said they dont sell any transmissions that require a kick down cable...

im not really savvy here but when i open my hoods on all my camaros and look at my carb i have a cable that connects from the gas pedal and i have a cable that goes down to the transmission.. jegs and summitt both told me that i dont have any cable i only have a shift cable???

My 67 is diffrrent from my 70 i know my shifter cable which is on the floor goes to the trans but under the hood i still have a nother cable that goes to the trans as well, basically im looking for a transmission that will work with my 70 camaro... i asked noth of them twice and they told me they didnt sell any and that my shop must of modified something..

i must be misunderstanding something here as i want to but is a TH350 that will work withmy 70- camaro and if im driving on the freeway and want to pass i simply want to stomp on the gas for the passing gear and not has to shift myself...

both jegs and summitt said i would have to shift myself??? please help me understand what is going on thanks..

Awesome trannys, I had a JEGS street performer in a Chevelle. Those transmissions have a semi-manual valve body (that may not be the correct name for it and I dont want to offend anyone but thats what I call it) which means they do not use a kickdown cable but they will shift up and down through the gears on their own. Just will not kick into a passing gear on its own that has to be done manually.

"Awesome:? you say? i dont see how they are awesome it doesnt shift on its own meaning there is no get up and go on its own at all you have to manually shift, if you have an original column shifter??? look try going through the rockies or a steep incline through the mountains you will hate their cheap low budget 600.00 transmissions, im not racing anything,, try getting stuck in between two semis on a steep incline or better yet trying to pass some body without the detent cable, i will stick to summitt or hughes and get the better performance and keep the transmission fully automatic versus somethingthat is part automatic and part manual....

Jegs, summitt, hughes all the same you said it yourself in first post. I meant the shift points and the way they shift awesome. I had no problem passing but I had a 450 hp stroker.

excuse me sir where in my 1st post did i say they are all the same? I suppose 1 could argue that all of them are the same even the 1 that you think is great BTW i have a 383 blue print engine with aluminum heads in my 67 and trust me when i say unto friend i would never want to have to shift to get my passing gear .. as far as great valve bodies, please they are use old cores and rebuild them for crying out loud, some even ome cracked when shipped wheather its jegs, summitt, hughes, tci etc, they are all rebuild trannys, they buy their cores, from junk yards and many other places,, really cheap than rebuild them.

the diffrence here is summitt and jegs sell their brand and they are not fully automatic meaning you will loose your poassing gear and will have to shift yourself to get it back.. now if you own camaros that have some after market products such as a rathet shifte for instance and you like to shift they are a good product for you... but lets say you have a column shhiftr for instance or better yet want fully "automatic" than these summitt brand and jegs brand transmissions are not for you at all,

they are part automatic and they are part manual i wouldnt call them fully automatic transmissions, and they are cheeper, with little warranty as they are built for the racer thus after sating hopw great their rebuilding is with great sprags etc they are quick to tell you they warranty any product that will be used for any racing,,,

BLUF: bottom line up front is i need a th-350 especially in los angeles whereby when some 1 cuts in front of me or slams on their brakes i dont have to maunaully shift anything i can simply stomp on the engine and go..

As an owner with a 383 stroker, in my 67 camaro with almost 500 HP and a 350TH super street fighter with a posi 12 BOLT rear end, i dont need to manually shift anything my horse power is at the ground with white smoke tore burning streaks on the ground... that detent cable/kick down cable when properly adjusted is better and thus theri transmissions are even cheaper to produce as they buy the cores just like everyone else under 50 bucks and rebuild them and than simply spit them out with their name on them....

i wouldnt call them awesome in any way shape or form, they are a budget transmission at best and you will have to do work when driving with 1..

Summit and Jegs sells performance transmissions with altered valve bodies, not plain-jane replacements. And they work semi-automatic as dynaryder described. Have you had your transmission checked out at a tranny shop though? Your problem could only be with having a bad governor, and it sure would suck to replace the whole trans if that's all it is. Also check to make sure you still have a good vacuum connection to the modulator.

Thank you 69. Well scoobiedoo sounds like you already know it all and you didnt need our help after all and a cheap Jegs or Summitt transmission is not for you. You asked why they did not have a detent cable and I simply explained.
