Default Trans Am axle?

I need to change the rear axle on a '67 coupe. I've been offered one out of a '79 Trans Am, does anyone know if it's the same width? Wheel stud pattern? etc.
Thanks.

same wheel pattern but I'm almost positive it is different length because you can put on of those rearends in a first gen car, but I've had to move the spring perches because the rearend was a bit longer and because of that, the bearing ride surfaces would be different

maybe someone else can confirm this better for you, but I figured I'd give you my experiences on it anyway

Default RE: Trans Am axle?

OK thanks, well, I bought it today so we'll see ! it's actually an inch narrower (axle face to face) than the M20 axle I have at the moment. The spring perches on the M20 axle are 42" centres, the T/A axle perches are 45" centres. Strange thing is, my rear spring hangers are 45" apart too, so the springs 'curve' in to meet the existing M20 mounts (Camaro mounts welded to an M20).
I'm putting the trans in at the moment after a rebuild so I'll tackle the axle next.
