Default tranny question

So I currently have a Saginaw 4 speed in my '67 and I decided to do some research on it and I found that Saginaw were the stock transmission they put in 4 speed camaros back then. I also read that they were very basic and were made for 350hp engines. I was wondering if that was a problem considering my camaro is pushing out 600 hp? I haven't driven it yet its still in the paintshop but im looking at an muncie m22 if its gonna be an issue. Thanks.

i would replace the saginaw. they were not a good tranny. they were easy to tear out even in 275hp 327 camaros. so up grading to any muncie is good. an m20 m21 or m22 is good. a m22 was designed to be a tough tranny and it was but if you are looking for somthig that creates as little road noise than the m22 is not the tranny. the m22 makes a lot of noise because the gears have a straighter cut than a 20 and 21. thats were they get the term rock crusher

The Saginaw is torque rated for 6 cyl and lightweight 8 cyl use. If you want something that's going to last, you'll want a Muncie M21 or the heavier duty M22 (rockcrusher). The M22's gears have less of an angle to them so they can handle more of a thrust load. Those straighter cut gears also gives the M22 a whine. By the way, what engine do you have that's putting out 600 hp?
