Default Tire Clearance

I've been looking through the forum and i have seen threads about tire sizes but most of them have been involving tires on 17 inch or bigger rims. What i need to know is if i put a 15 inch rim on the back of my '69 what would be the biggest tire that i can fit without worrying too much about rubbing against the wheel wells. Right now i have 14" on the car and wanted to go bigger in the back.

I've seen many members including myself put 275/60/15s in the back. That's prob as tall and wide as you'll go before you hit something. The backspacing is key because you don't want the tires to stick outside of the fender well, but also don't want the tires to hit the bottom shock tower.

I'm not certain what the factory offset is on the 15x8 rally's. I know the 60 series would fit but I'm not sure how wide you can go. I think it works but not 100%. Go to camaros.net and search 275/60/15 and see results.

an original Corvette 15x8 should allow you a 255/60/15 without rubbing, at stock height, without any added weight in the rear.

to be safe, it wouldn't be a bad idea to grind your quarterpanel lips back to just before the spotwelds though (DO NOT GO FURTHER!!!!). this way if you put someone or something in the rear, you still won't rub

I am running 275 60 r 15 with no issues ... I did add a slight lift to the rear .. but it was not needed for the tires
