throttle sticks only in drive

Has any been through this. In nuetral, reverse, and park, everything works fine, but when you put it in drive the pedal sticks. I thought it might be the motormount because the engine tweeked up so far, but they look fine. I have checked the pedal, everything around the carb, and the motormounts.

Need to have some questions answered first. What type of shifter, console orcolumn? What Carburetor? Is your throttle a rod or cable? Does it also happen if the engine isn't running? Does it do it in 2nd or 1st (assuming it isn't a powerglide)? And what do you mean by sticking? Is the throttle stiff but still moves back and forth, or does it stay locked in one position and race the engine? Have you had someone else help you by working the gas pedal while you look under the hood to see what is, or isn't moving?

console shifter. Holly 600 carb, rod throttle, It only happens in all foward gears, 1st,2nd, and drive. Everything works fine in nuetral, reverse, part, and when the car is not running. When you put it in a foward gear it will stick and race the engine, and the motor looks like it is tweeking over pretty far like its a motor mount but they seem fine.

So if I understand correctly, it doesn't do it at all when the engine isn't running?Sounds to me like engine movement is causing the throttle linkage to bind. With the engine running, try having someone you can trustwork the gas pedal while you poke around under the hood. Check how much free movement (wiggle) the linkage has at idle, then put the car in drive, have them stand on the brakes andpush the pedal down lightly till it starts to bind (the old brake torque test). Nowcheck the linkage and see if it feels tight, or if it feels the same as how it was at idle. Be sure you can trust the person working the pedals so they don't let the car take off on you. Make sure you are at the car's side, and there is a clear shot in front of the car (just in case it should move). Are you sure your motor mount is good? Personally, I would put on a set of urethane mounts.I like them better than stock rubber ones because they keep movement to a minimum and theyhave an interlock so they can't rip free. I never tried, but I'm sure rubber ones wouldn't last a day in my car!

thanks for the advice. It has to be the rubber motormounts because like 69 said it only happens when it is in a foward load. The motor tweeks up about 3in on the drivers side, causing it to bind. I am going to order some urethane mounts and see if that solves it.

Rubber mounts will allow the engine to rock somewhat, nowhere near what you are getting. Youhave a torn, separatedmount, allowing the engine to lift.
