Temp light is coming on when I start my 1968 SS any help
Hi I’ve had tons of problems with this engine. Had new distributor, cam, lifters, carb put in. It’s a 350 with a kegs performance cam & lifters. Holley 600 MSD distributor. Finally it was running great for about two months and died at the stop light near my house and wouldn’t start so I had it towed to a shop . The diagnosis was it was flooding front bowl was pouring gas. So I took the 600 Holley back and put a new new one on. Cranks right up a little rich and needs idle adjusted for my tastes but the temp light came on . Never has car wasn’t hot I have a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge inside. It’s getting good oil pressure and the temp gauge is staying low ( I haven’t let it run longer than 3-4 min ) why would the temp light be coming on ? The dash cluster does have issues such as speedometer doesn’t work and fuel gauge is iffy. Can someone tell me it’s no big deal and help me fix this issue . I really don’t wanna drive it if the temp light is on even though my temp gauge and engine temp says it’s running cool. Thanks In advance.
Damn idiot lights,I'd get rid of it and go with a manual gauge only.
It might be a wire issue or a bad sending unit etc.
If you haven't already make sure you change the oil after that carb flooding issue, you don't want gas in your oil.
Do you have an inline gas filter? There could be junk in your gas tank that fouled the carb.
Might want to check the radiator to be sure there's nothing that shouldn't be in there like oil which could mean a bad head gasket or something.

OP
if the temp gauge shows no issue than either the "temp light" wiring is FU or the sender is bad. Given you already have some dash gauge function issues...your issue may be wiring.
Unfortunately if you don't work on the car yourself paying someone to "guess and search", especially if the cars wiring has been molested by previous owners, gets expensive to find & repair a broken or shorted wire. Todays "Mr Goodwrench" knows nothing about a 50+ year old car so find a mechanic who is versed in these kinds of cars if you pay for work

OE design of TEMP idiot light circuit, the sensor is a thermal switch and provides a ground, when closed, and bulb lights.
If the lead on the sensor is disconnected, then the only time the TEMP bulb comes on is bulb check function at START position.
If TEMP still stays on after disconnecting from sensor, then as suggested, wire harness is hosed some where. Good luck.
