Contrary to what guys will tell you, size does matter. If you want to stay with a small block, then my vote is also to go with a stroker motor. Unless you're not after an engine that will leave a 327 peeing in it's pants?

i think the strokers are over rated. a 327 is just a good or better than any other 383 on the road if you build them right.
all 327's are 2 bolt mains they might have made some 4's but ive never seen any.the best ones are in any car from 62 to 68 they came in everything impalas, bel airs, biscaynes, novas, malibus, vettes, camaros. s

Have you driven one to feel what the gobs of low end torque is like? I've had other small blocks, and certainly wouldn't call the stroker "over rated". To say that then just leaves the others under rated. Sure you can build a 327 with high h.p. too, but it's going to come in at a higher rpm band (less bottom-end stump pulling torque). Torque is the nature of the beast, and that's why it's liked by many.

the vortec 5.3 are just a cast iron block LS1 the intake from a camaro or vette and the coil pack covers will switch over. the block are identical except for what metal they are made of

no 5.3 vortec v8s that came in gm pickups are cast iron ls1's they started using them in i think 06.yes the lt1s are cast iron because they are still based on the original small block. but the newer vortec v8s are cast iron versions of an LS1. it was on a recent episode of extreme 4x4 on spike that talked all about the different ls motors
