Heh,you're still looking at a 5mpg car, maybe 7-8mpg highway going downhill with a good tailwind and a motor that will need lots of attention besides lots of fuel.
Just my 2cts but if you want a nice and fast DD car look at a late 4th gen car with an LS motor.
Much better driver that can go around corners and has power everything with cruise and AC yet still gets upper 20's mpg.
I had a '69 with a built 427/4peed and loved it but my 4th gen Z is a hell of a lot nicer DD car.

Low vacuum maybe but not likely why,I had a full manual advance in my 427 because they advance quicker and never fail.
They just work better with a big radical cam,the advance can be set specific to the cam which usually in such an engine is all about raw high end power without consideration for smooth low end acceleration.

Looks like it'd be a pretty good deal at that price, for what it has. It has vinyl decals? Then you could heat them up with a hair dryer and peel them back off. Put an overdrive trans in it and gas mileage will get better, on the highway anyhow. Wearing your lead lined right shoe is what will kill your short run mileage, not that we ever do that!

Heh,well good luck with that lol.
I know you can improve mileage a little but no mater how you slice it this will never be a very good commuter car lol.
If I had your goal in mind and had my heart set on a gen 1 car I'd go a very different route than trying to make a big block drag car somehow DD friendly.
I'd find the best deal I could on a gen 1 car and do an LS motor and trans swap from a late 4th gen, best of both worlds.

not against a 502 just not common sense smart for a DD.
If you have 16-17g cash and dont have to make this deal why not find a nice clean 69 in a more likeable color, with a decent or worn sb and run it or do a ls swap as others mentioned?
this thing was built for track use and will not realy increase in value in trying to make it street friendly!!
if it were me i would find one with a built sb or bb and a tremec 5-6 speed.
even with 3:73`s you will be running 3600-4000 rpm to hit 60mph!!!
